Average salary falls The average salary of financial sector employees rose 20% in May to NIS 18,416. by Zeev Klein Globes August 7, 2006 The average gross salary of Israelis fell 1.5%, or NIS 108, in May 2006, compared with April, to NIS 7,428, according to Central Bureau of Statistics figures published today. The average salary fell 3.1%, or NIS 234, in April-May. 36% of Israelis, 930,000 persons, earned an average gross salary of NIS 2,503, 66% less than the average national salary. 181,000 earned an average gross salary of NIS 7,035. 57% of Israelis, 1.4 million persons, earned an average gross salary of NIS 10,615. The average gross salary of 126,000 Israeli with two jobs was NIS 7,810. Bank, insurance and financial institutions workers were the top paid employees, with an average gross salary of NIS 18,416 in May, an increase of 20%, or NIS 3,000, compared with April. The increase was due to a one-time payment. Israel Electric Corporation (IEC) and Mekorot National Water Company employees were the second highest paid employees, with an average gross salary of NIS 16,555 in May, 20.5%, or NIS 4,282, less than in April. Civil servants and public sector employees were the third highest paid employees, with an average gross salary of NIS 10,866. Manufacturing workers were in fourth place, with an average gross salary of NIS 10,006. The lowest paid group of employees were in catering and accommodation workers, with an average salary of NIS 3,536, 52% less than the average national salary. Agricultural workers earned an average gross salary of NIS 4,860, 35% of the average national salary. The average gross salary in May of community, social and personal services employees was NIS 5,009; education - NIS 5,567; health, welfare and nursing services - NIS 6,091; construction and earthworks - NIS 6,457; garages, wholesale and retail - NIS 6,513; business services - NIS 7,432; and transportation, warehousing and communications - NIS 8,604.
