The average wage rose by 5%, or NIS 364, to April 2006 from May 2005, when it was NIS 7,176. 37% of employees, 922,000 people, earned an average salary of NIS 2,491, 67% less than the average national salary. 179,000 people earned an average salary of NIS 7,013, 7% less than the average national salary. 121,000 people with two jobs earned an average salary of NIS 7,920, 5% above the average national salary. 56% of wage-earners, over 1.4 million people, earned an average salary of NIS 10,899, 45% above the average national salary, and 4.4 times the average salary of the lowest group. The average salary of legal foreign workers was NIS 3,936 in April, 48% less than the average national salary. The average salary of Israelis, Palestinian workers and legal foreign workers was NIS 7,432. There were 2.51 million Israeli employees in April, a record. The total labor force, including Israelis, 8,200 Palestinians and 63,900 legal foreign workers was 2.59 million.
