Globes Zeev Klein Matrch 8, 2006 The average national gross salary rose by a modest 1.4% in 2005 to NIS 7,623 in December, the Central Bureau of Statistics reported today. 27% of wage-earners, 654,000 people, earned an average gross salary of NIS 1,932, 75% less than the average national salary, and 42% below the minimum wage of NIS 3,335 a month. As usual, the highest average salary in December was paid to Israel Electric Corporation (IEC) and Mekorot National Water Company employees: NIS 15,422, following a 6.8% pay hike. The average IEC and Mekorot salary is 2.02 times the average national salary. The average salary in the banking, insurance and financial sector was NIS 14,398 in December, 89% above the average national salary, after rising 2.4% over the year. This group has the second highest average salary. Civil servants and public administration employees, including in local authorities, and government companies and agencies, earned an average salary of NIS 11,064, 45% above the average national salary, after rising 2.3% over the year. This group has the third highest average salary. In fourth place were industrial employees, with an average salary of NIS 10,464 in December, after a 2.1% raise over the year. The group with lowest average salary is accommodation and catering employees, with an average salary of NIS 3,732 in December, 51% of the national average salary, up 0.4% over the year.
