Average Income for Men - NIS 7,088; for Women - Only NIS 4,352 By Zeev Klein A large gap exists between men and women on the job market. The average income for men was 63% higher than that of women. It reached NIS 7,088 a month (in 1998 prices), compared with NIS 4,352 average wage for women. This was reported today by the Central Bureau of Statistics. The figures show that women live longer, earn less and suffer more from headaches, back and joint pains than men. The statistics also show that women are discriminated against on the job market at all levels of education and wages. Salaries of highly educated (16 years of education and more) women were only 78% of the salaries earned by men with the same level of education. In addition, the gap in wages between men and women grew with age. In the 15-24 age group, women's wage per hour was 97% of men's, while in the 45+ age group, women's wage per hour was only 78% of the men's. Published by Israel's Business Arena on 7 March, 2000
