Hi Everyone! Happy Birthday Israel! Tonight I went to shul for a special Yom Ha'atzmaut tefilah. When I got home, I turned on the TV to watch the ceremonies starting the celebrations around the country. One of the first items on the show was the lighting of 12 torches by various worthy individuals from across the country. What I thought was very special is that each torch had the name of each of the 12 tribes of Israel inscribed in big letters. An obvious statement about our connection to our past and our tikvah for the future. I think that was super cool! About 30 minutes ago I went outside to watch the first of two fireworks displays in Ma'aleh Adumim. Tomorrow I may go to a barbeque in Jerusalem or one in Ma'aleh Adumim. Tomorrow night I may go to the poker game in Jerusalem. Friday it is down to Arad for Shabbat. The only thing that I would like to see, but I may miss, is the Israeli Air Force flyover which will take place over many cities in Israel. Maybe a few jets will fly over Ma'aleh Adumim on the way to Jerusalem. ------------------------------------------------------------- Back in 1998 I wrote in a CJI report about Israel's 50th birthday.
